“I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” Hebrews 8:12
We can do something utterly right one moment and something utterly wrong the next. Moses, as recorded in the Book of Exodus, decided to leave the comforts of pharaoh’s mansion and return to his people. That was the right choice. But then he became so angry at the mistreatment of the Israelites that he murdered an Egyptian. That was a wrong choice. But one failure does not necessarily disqualify us from future service. We think that we can’t fail and when we do, it shakes our confidence. We even think that God won’t be able to use us anymore. The case of Moses shows that we aren’t defeated by our failures. After Moses murdered the Egyptian man, he fled into the Midian wilderness for forty years. There he learned to be gentle and compassionate by becoming a shepherd, husband, and father. Moses learned more about God from his father-in-law Jethro. He learned to trust God and seek His guidance before making decisions…good qualities for any future leader!
God didn’t forsake Moses just because he did wrong. Moses learned from his failures and became one of the greatest leaders of all time. God continued to love Moses and use Moses to do His work. Our God is a God of second (and third, and fourth…) chances. Don’t let past failures ruin you for the work God has for you now. Our failures as well as our sins have been forgiven because the work of Jesus Christ. Do you believe that?

Dear Heavenly Father, search my heart. Change me into the servant You want me to be. Forgive me of my sins and failures. Help me learn from each and become more and more like You.
