All You Need Is Love

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love (sisterly too) my insertion – Romans 12:9-10

The Beatles song, “All You Need Is Love,” has stood the test of time but I think the reason it has is because it is a timeless truth. Jesus told us that we would be known by how we love each other. Apparently, the world does not love the way we are called to love so we are totally weird that way. Take a look around church sometime and you will see what I mean. We are just weird.  Old hugging the young, white hugging black folks, real men hugging other real men, the beautiful hugging the rest of us. It is just plain strange but thats right. God looks at the heart kind of the way we do. Some of us do it better than others and some have had much more practice at it and some of us are just plain crusty before Christ made us into better lovers of our brothers and sisters. If you look at many of our backgrounds, we shouldn’t even like each other but we do. This didn’t happen naturally or by coincidence but the intentional fellowship of brothers and sisters sharing in a dynamic forum. May be a mens groups, church dinner, fellowship time or getting together for an AOK, but the fact is, when the people of God gather, He is always there. It is a promise. You will never grow closer to God or His people by sitting in church looking at the back of someone elses head in the middle of worship. Worship is for God not for you. Getting together with the people of God in a dynamic relationship is for you. Feel a little distant? Not quite sure where you fit, get in a group and give it a chance. If anyone is unkind to you, embarrasses you, or singles you out let me know. We have ways of dealing with them. Our purpose is to love you to a place where you can love others. Period, end of story! I dare you!

Prayer: Father, give us the guts to step out, be more, learn more, become more than we ever dreamed we could be.

Well said! I love your sense of humor and knack at getting right down to the truth. God bless you for your transparency.
