The teachings of their God are in their heart, so they do not fail to keep them
Psalm 37:31(NCV)
Computers don’t come naturally for me. I have found though, if I have clear written instructions I can navigate with out much trouble. The more I use the instructions the more they become a part of me. Pretty soon I remember them so well it just becomes natural.
I have found this to be true of God’s instruction Book. The more I read it, study it, write out verses, hang them on mirrors, refrigerator, or put them in my purse to read, the more it becomes a part of me. Slowly, as I memorize those beautiful words they become a living breathing part of my life.
His word when hidden in my heart rescues me when life throws a curve.
The day my daughter was in an ambulance struggling to breathe, I recited the 23rd psalm out loud; it helped relax her so the oxygen could flow better. The day I went to emergency not knowing what lay ahead His words comforted me as nothing else could.
Flipping through the TV channels the words “Be holy even as I am holy” waft through my heart as gentle as a whisper. Reminding me whose I am, helping me make a better, wiser choice.
When we choose to listen to the still, small voice of God we won’t fail to keep His teachings.
His words remind us to love our enemies; pray for those who persecute us. They remind us how we are supposed to act. They show us a better way to live.
Hiding God’s word in our heart protects us from the father of all lies and helps us keep the faith when tough times hit. They will hit, we just never know when or where. Knowing Gods word for ourselves protects us from the fear of the unknown. It keeps us ready for life and all its messiness. Lets face it, when an emergency happens we usually don’t have the Bible laying at our fingertips, we only have the words hidden in our heart and they can make all difference in the world for us or someone else.
Scripture Reading: Psalm 16:8
Lord God, help me have more reverence for Your word, and help me hide them in my heart so I won’t fail to keep your teachings.
